Second Grade News for February 11th - February 24th

Dates to Remember===== Valentine’s Day Party- Tuesday, Feb. 14th==== Science Family Day – Thursday, Feb. 16th==== No School – Friday, Feb 17th and Monday, Feb. 20th ====== Reading –this week we will take the skills test from last week on Monday and begin the next story on Tuesday (and continue throughout next week). We will be working on contractions, -le ending in 2 syllable words, following directions, and fluency- The skills test will not be until the Friday, February 24th -- please read with your child at home each night and complete the reading logs. ====== Math –this week we will be working on fractions, using fractions to show parts of collection, equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions. Unit 7 test on Wednesday. The next week we will be working on measurement including using inches, centimeters, etc. to measure objects and to find the perimeter. Please continue to help your child learn addition and subtraction facts. It would also help your child to practice counting money and telling time at home. ====== Students should be able to read the high-frequency words and vocabulary words without help. ====== High-Frequency Words: early, hair, instead====== Vocabulary Words: bakery, customer, ingredients, culture, dough, recipe====== Spelling: I’ll, we’ve, I’m, you’re, isn’t, didn’t, you’ll, I’ve, it’s, we’ll, can’t, they’re, wouldn’t, it, us==== Spelling test will be on Friday (February 24th).
