The Miller R-II School Board has decided to pursue AdvancEd District Accreditation during the 2008-2009 school year. AdvancEd District Accreditation is the parent organization for the North Central Association on Accreditation and School Improvement. Several schools in the area are members of this organization including Mt. Vernon High School, Joplin High School, Monett High School, Republic High School, and Seneca High School.
AdvancEd District Accreditation is a voluntary process that provides school districts with school credits that are recognized nationally and internationally. Accreditation is based upon; 1) Meeting the AdvancEd standards, 2) Engage in a continuous process of improvement, and 3) Demonstrate quality assurance through internal and external review. The accreditation process will last throughout most of the 2008-2009 school year as the Miller R-II School develops and implements a continuous improvement model. Key elements of the accreditation process include: a shared vision for student success, using school data to make decisions regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment, maintaining a school wide profile of the current situation, and evaluating results from efforts to improve student learning and school effectiveness.
Dr. Theresa Christian, Instructional Specialist, recently made the comment to the Miller R-II School Board that by seeking the AdvancEd District Accreditation showed that “we are committed to going above and beyond the minimum requirements. We can and should expect more from ourselves and the students.” Parents and community members interested in learning more about the AdvancEd District Accreditation process can contact the Miller R-II School District at 417-452-3515.
